Choosing Beneficial Intent
by Susan Boskey
For most of my life I believed God to be like a super-human, stern, male fatherly figure who lived somewhere out of range in the sky. I fell into the common version of anthropomorphism when considering what or who God actually was. Fortunately and eventually, overcome by a new awareness I dropped to my knees.
Once I began thinking outside of the framework and Biblical doctrine of my church I became unsettled. All religious doctrine stopped making sense to me. I knew deep in my soul that Jesus and I both came from the exact same ground of being: both cut from the same source of power. I knew this in my gut and I needed no one external to myself to confirm it. I was experiencing the difference between reading the menu and eating the meal.
Goodbye Anthropomorphism
The result of shifting from doctrine to experience was that I saw through the hypocrisy in my church. I actually confronted this arrogance when a senior pastor refused to acknowledge the damage done by his sexualized response to me. My assertion of such, and then asking for an apology, led to me being the one reprimanded as stepping out of line.
At the time. I wondered how Jesus would have handled the situation. Would he also have shamed me for asking for a simple apology? No, I realized, Jesus would not want or expect me to submit to him based on his status. He knew that would be idolatry. What Jesus did want for me, and from me, was to receive the apology and to forgive.
Beyond that I was to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jesus, humbled by and aligned with the same ineffable wonder of the light of God and love that he preached. Flooded with this awareness the last vestiges of ‘the old man in the sky’ fell away. I was reborn evermore deeply to the one and same authority from which all life, all humanity originates – to the Unity of which Jesus extolled.
Humans and the Two Sides
The realm of people, places and things, the physical, secular, material, real world, is the world I live in. But, for me, this world is not the sum-total of reality. I see the whole of material existence, world of content, ‘nested’ within a spacious context. Content and context always go together even when we fail to acknowledge the context of any thing or situation. We may see ourselves as human doings without acknowledging the non-physical side that completes our human nature. Do we call ourselves humans (without being) because of believing reality exists as only what we see with our eyes and senses?
Being is the eternal home of ultimate being – God, All That Is, Allah, Great Spirit, Creative Intelligence, or however you might identify the force behind all life which cannot be understood by our senses. The being side of the human being is a gift; it allows the human to experience a benefit in physical life not otherwise available in the human-only realm of understanding. That of which Jesus was speaking is a universal, uncontrived context inquiring human minds can experience directly.
Yet based on the value and availability of being to all people, this brilliant gift of life so often fails to dazzle because it cannot willfully be consumed. Senior to all people, places and things is the human capacity to know the majesty of simple being – basic awareness and humble appreciation – that does not take things for granted.
When the light of recognition goes on that we each are part and parcel of something larger, everything changes. The sleeping giant within of inspired motivation wakes up. What, from a materialistic perspective had seemed like a context of empty space comes alive as an overflowing fount of benefit. Gratitude to creative intelligence, whatever that is, strengthens us in ways the material world never can.
Gain as the Organizing Principle
Like a horse with blinder on, we often only see what’s directly in front of us. A skittish horse – one that would balk at anything it saw – was often fitted with blinders on the outside of each of their eyes allowing it to see directly ahead, but without any peripheral vision. When we humans have blinders on our outlook in life is limited to what we see in front of us. If all we ever see is the content ahead the value of what context has to offer, eludes us. Why limit ourselves to only that which us physical?
The organizing principle for many humans seems to be gain; it becomes imperative to acquire the people, places or things we believe will signal our success; thereby the end justifies the means of acquisition. Our pursuit in going down this rabbit hole is to ensure happiness via the rabbit’s capture.
When seeing gain as a content-only perspective it is also easier to see how domination, exploitation, divisiveness, corruption, theft and lies exist as inevitable outcomes. Due to the lack of any non-physical values, the context for such content ends up being a dog-eat-dog world of deception, pain and suffering. By focusing on gain alone and ignoring the larger context of what being offers, we limp along and disable ourselves.
Beneficial Intent as the Organizing Principle
The obvious other side of the human materialist-context of life is the human-non-material context of being. When the value of being is understood, considered and contemplated, then the whole human being activates. Gain is no longer, and will never be, the main objective for the seeming nothingness of pure space. In fact, what I’ve seen is that gain continues at a goodly pace without being the central focus.
Pure space (the seeming nothingness) as the origin of all material life bursts with unconditional freedom, unconditional love, possibility, safety and beneficial intent. We get to be ourselves at our deepest, most authentic level. Inner depth of understanding in turn increases our inherent capacities and competences leading to successful outcomes.
The recognition and reconnection with being is the gift of life that you cannot make happen on your own. This reconnection of the earth-bound human and infinite being is the platform of genuine opportunity in life. Awareness opens without effort and when paid attention to, becomes our everyday True Nature.
As a business attorney once told me: There is nothing new under the sun. Whatever awakening to one’s own awareness is, many have walked and shown the path. At this very moment in time, March 20, 2025, more and more people throughout the planet are true, whole human beings; they are recovering their minds and bodies from toxicity of every kind while restoring their heart as the physical locus of essence.
Beneficial intent is the organizing principle. Shockingly we are each of the same, exact origin, the same essence. It’s that simple. We become invincible as human beings with a connection to something larger. Grace becomes the unobstructed flow of life moving through us beyond our perceived need to be in control.
Recognition of essence banishes all victimhood and converts it to self-ownership. Just the impact alone of consciously choosing to not blame anyone or anything for your situation is a revolutionary act towards a life of positive outcomes. I see this over and over for myself. Self-ownership trumps politics as to where peace begins. Politics (as content) suffers gain through the election game of winning or losing.
I invite readers to rest in considering, while remaining skeptical at the same time, that the essence of life exists within, around and for you. There is a price however: living by the one law of the Golden Rule. When content and context are known as one and indivisible, like a whole human being, life can work for everyone in all the practical ways that matter.
Wise words , Susan , thank you .
you will however , have to retitle this page now ,
how about … Essays by Bob and Sue and Jesus too ?
This essay by Susan Boskey points to the fountains of grace and benefit pouring from Lifes great Heart. It is a call to recognize the larger context beyond the trivial pursuits we indulge in, the glittery content and filler we use to fill in the gaps and holes in our crippled psyches.
She calls for a total revolution in context, one that actually respects and is based on our infinite nature of love and freedom. Her passionate realization of her own nature as love and truth is not some mediocre armchair philosophy. It’s God’s Gun to the head, a hold-up of cosmic proportions: recognize the truth of who you are or suffer the horrible death of despair and self inflicted defeat.
This essay is a call to see clearly, beyond the labels and puny contexts of ordinary life, to see what is already true, free and available to everyone: the beneficial grace of Love’s presence AS each of us.
